Ephesians 5:18 (HCSB) – Do not get drunk with wine, which leads to reckless actions, but be filled with the Spirit.

I heard a story about a church, and in their kitchen, whoever drinks the last cup of coffee, often fails to replenish the pot for the next person. Trying the motivate the staff to be more responsible, the secretary taped a neatly-typed plea to the pot, “If Jesus drank the last cup of coffee, what would He have done? Go thou and do likewise.” The next morning she found this scrawled response, “Jesus would have turned the water into wine instead of coffee.”

That silly story has a lot of truth to it, if you think about it. We keep running and running, like the hamster on his wheel, until we have no more strength to run. So we ask the Lord for strength, for stimulation. We ask Him for more caffiene so that we can just make it one more day. We need our fix.

Jesus wants us to go beyond that, He is not interested in making us caffienated Christians; but water into wine Christians.

He does that by filling us with His Holy Spirit. He doesn’t want to just stimulate us or strengthen us just to get by. He want’s to fill us with His abundant life, so that we can become more than conquerors through Him who loves us.

Give God the ordinary water of your life, and see what He will do.

Jesus still turns water into wine.
